This meeting held at the New Florence VFW had representatives from Western Pennsylvania Conservancy's, Freshwater Conservation program, Ben Wright and Greg Schaetzle. Their power point presentation was clear, and very informative. WPC efforts are working to upgrade the water quality status of Tubmill and Hendricks. This high quality designation will afford our streams more protection from future polluters.
Stream property owners were invited to attend as well as T.T.C. members. Many questions were asked and answered. Discussion included bank erosion, Trout habitat improvement and rare aquatic life that call Tubmill and Hendricks home.
Melissa Reckner presentied on behalf of the Kiski - Conemaugh stream team, a division of the Conemaugh River Conservancy. She spoke about the upcoming lime doser project slated for this summer being constructed to remediate acid mine drainage at the Stanton bridge near Bolivar. Also, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's regional fisheries biologist Gary Smith was present. PFBC was involved in a biological survey with the Stream Team and WPC this past summer. We look forward to hearing more from our Fish Commission and the Stream Team at future meetings..........
Members were encouraged to participate in discussion and many of the 35 attendees did just that........
Joe Flickinger asks a question concerning mine acid drainage below Stanton bridge and considerations for it's treatment..........
An excellent informative meeting shared by many who will share with many more the bright future of Tubmill and Hendricks run over the next many years......... Isn't that great. --- LIN
