ABOUT OUR "BIG DOG" HUNT

Thank hunters and see you next year!

Tubmill Trout Club will hold it's 10th annual"BIG DOG" Coyote hunt late January 2010 and the "COYOTE BASH" in mid March. Many of our officials over the years have been asked why a fishing club holds a coyote hunt and that is a good question. Our hunt is organized from what we feel a need for the control of coyote predation on deer herds and turkey flocks. Some agree with this method, and some don't. T.T.C. has always sponsored the "BIG DOG" as a hunt for the sake of being a hunt not a primary fundraising event. You'll notice not having to join our club to be able to participate in our hunt.  T.T.C. has no premisis, club building, or overhead in any way, thus not needing to raise funds for that purpose. T.T.C. raises money for stocking trout and stream improvement projects from our coyote hunts and other fund raising events. We as sportsmen feel that "Coyote hunts" are needed to help manage predators. Another question asked frequently is about prizes. Prizes are a way to generate interest in coyote hunting. T.T.C. uses NO additional budget money only hunt entry fees for prizes. Our hunt also tries to bring a degree of fairness, For example having one coyote allowed per registered hunter at check-in. Individual hunters may and will bring multiple coyotes, but one coyote of their choice will be counted towards prize awards. This rule keeps the succesful hunter's award higher in dollar value.

Common questions and there answers:

1) Q- How many coyotes can be checked per hunter ?

A- Any number of coyotes per hunter during any check-in period of the hunt. Ultimately only one coyote will count per registered hunter towards prize winning.

2) Q- How is a winner determined ?

A- TTC- "Big Dog" hunt committee members decide, the first posted night of the hunt, as to weather officials will weigh or measure entered coyotes. The first night there is no check-in period for this decision to be made.

3) Q- Can coyotes be trapped ?

A- No not in this particular hunt. Our committee recognizes that a trap set is a 24 hour lure and catch and is a decided advantage. This ruling also disallows snares and all other types of cable restraints.

4) Q- How are rules enforced ?

A- Many are good faith followed by hunters. Also TTC has attending professional biologist(s) extensivly EXPERIENCED specifically with the eastern coyote. These people perform independent examinations for our hunt in effort to keep all fair.

5) Q- Why does it take a week to receive our winnings check?

A- The hunt receives many "check"payments from those entered. We must give these checks a week to clear the bank. We have had bad checks returned in the past with the fees that go with them. Couple that with the checks owner not covering the costs and that will alter the prize pot.

6) Q- Does club money go towards prizes for these hunts?

A- No only the hunt entry fees support the cash prizes.

7) Q- Why does a fishing club have coyote and turkey hunts?

A- only to support the collection of funds for trout stocking and stream improvement. We look at hunts as a different way to raise funds during non- fishing times of the year
